My Story
I am serving as a co-principal investigator (co-PI) of the GEMS project. My duties on the project include assisting Kristina Keating (PI) with project administration, cultivating partnerships with Lawrence Berkeley National Lab (LBNL) and Pacific Northwest National Lab (PNNL), and mentoring the graduate student G-GEMS fellows. At Rutgers University Newark, I am the Henry Rutgers professor of geophysics, specializing in near-surface geophysics. I manage a large research group composed mostly of Ph.D. students. Together, we work to advance the use of near-surface geophysics to advance our understanding of critical zone processes. We are particularly interested in the fate and transport of contaminants, groundwater-surface water interactions, effects of increasing salinity driven by sea level rise, and the hydrology and carbon cycling of peatlands. I also hold a joint appointment in the Energy and Environment Directorate of PNNL, allowing me to work on problems of direct relevance to the Department of Energy.
